Job Description

Any Acas Office excluding London With an element of working from home. Please be aware that this role can only be worked in Great Britain and not overseas. Job summary

Role Purpose:

  • This role is suited to an individual with an analytical mind who is skilled in operating statistical software and interrogating data sources to carry out in depth analysis and then communicating their findings to colleagues across the business to improve policies, practices, and processes.
  • The jobholder will provide information, analytical findings and recommendations to managers in a range of service areas, regarding operational performance, processes, demands and resources, to assist with operational planning, resource deployment and overall performance improvement. They will work together with members of the existing team to cover all the duties required of the role.

Job description

Main Accountabilities:

  • Analyse and interpret data, prepare reports and interpret these for colleagues to inform management across a range of service areas regarding service performance and any scope for improvement.
  • Identify statistical data to meet changing operational analysis needs and provide input into the strategic planning process for the organisation, including evidence required for the transformation of services.
  • Design, run and update reports and create analytical pipelines using statistical analysis tools, including SQL, MS Power BI, MS Excel, R and other relevant packages.
  • Support the implementation and practical application of quality assurance processes in relation to statistical and analytical reporting
  • Work with colleagues to share insights, techniques, and good practice; promote the team and support a climate of continuous improvement across services, including HL, IDR and GPS.
  • Help to prepare annual forecasts of demand for Acas services and the associated staffing requirement.
  • Identify trends; areas requiring further investigation; and opportunities for improvement including the preparation of different/new reports which provide better/further insight.
  • Utilise management information in the most beneficial way for Acas to inform senior management about performance and effectiveness of Acas operational activities and bring in the analysis of survey and other secondary source data where appropriate.
  • Provide management information to and work with internal and external customers, including colleagues in the Research, Analysis and Insight team and analysts in BEIS, and supplement evidence emerging from other colleagues in Acas to help Acas meet its Strategic Aims.
  • Provide corporate support to the Directorate including collating returns, ensuring deadlines are met, arranging meetings with colleagues in different teams as the need arises.
  • Be willing to provide line management of Grade 10 members of staff if the opportunity arises.

Experience:

Essential criteria: 

  • Experience of devising and using advanced data query, manipulation, and analysis techniques, with knowledge of relevant software packages and tooling to analyse and model data (such as SQL, MS Power Bi, MS Excel and MS Dynamics case management system).
  • Experience in generating accurate and replicable data reporting and insight by the creation of analytical pipelines.
  • High degree of skill in using all programmes contained within Office 365.
  • Experience of contributing to the publishing and presenting of statistical data.
  • Experience of working with and supporting the use of assurance models for statistical data and analysis.
  • Good oral and written communication skills. The successful applicant will need to work closely with operational colleagues who do not have an analytical background and the ability to listen to and understand their needs and to communicate analytical findings and methods to a non-specialist audience will be critical to ensure organisational improvements are made from the data analysis.

Interview Details

If you have successfully passed sift, you will be invited to an interview via MS Teams which is likely to take place in the week commencing 14/04/25. The interview will be a Behaviour/Technical interview.
