Job summary

This is an outstanding opportunity to join the MOD Civil Service, working alongside Royal Marines, providing support to Amphibious training and trials for new equipment to meet Defence outputs. Located at Royal Marines Instow and operating out of Zeta Berth, this role is varied, rewarding and exciting. Continuous Amphibious Readiness is one of the Royal Navys key outputs. 47 Commando Raiding Group Royal Marines (47Cdo (RG) RM) delivers support to the Commando Forces amphibious capability. Within 47 Cdo, 11 Squadron, based at RM Instow, enables this through the trials and development of amphibious equipment that is at the forefront of Commando Forces, delivering specialist amphibious training on a variety of vehicles and boats to project and sustain forces from the sea.

The Craft Maintenance Supervisor guarantees that we can meet our objectives by ensuring all the equipment documentation and corrective maintenance of craft that is crucial to meet the demands of Zeta Berth and wider Squadron. This busy, interesting and critical position is vital to enable us to deliver current and future operations in a safe and efficient manner.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance. Job description

The Craft Maintenance Supervisor will support RM Instow with provision of essential Craft equipment maintenance and inspections that supports the output of 11 Squadron.

Main duties involve:

  1. To ensure the correct maintenance of Craft.
  2. Supervise and record the routine and corrective maintenance of the machinery and associated systems.
  3. Maintaining comprehensive records to meet audit and assurance requirements on the appropriate MOD IT software systems, for which full training will be given.
  4. To act as Deputy Harbour Master.
  5. To act as Deputy Building Manager.

There may also be a requirement to work with HMNB (Devonport) at 47Cdo, (RM Tamar) to carry out support functions within the job role. This may involve overnight stays at His Majestys Naval Base (Devonport), for which you will be entitled to Travel and Subsistence, in accordance with the current policy.

Person specification

As Craft Maintenance Supervisor, you will also be working with other departments in support of Amphibious Trials and Training, supporting the Landing Craft Utility (LCU) crew with basic maintenance, or assisting with lifting operations, occasionally during unsocial hours, for which a premium will be paid in line with current MOD Policy.

You will also be responsible for demanding equipment spares with regards to craft in order to ensure that RM Instow can continue to deliver outputs.

Depending upon experience and qualifications, travel including overnight stays may be required in order to complete training vital to fulfil the role.

Licences

Hold a full UK driving Licence with Category B entitlement.
Driving license is required due to remote nature of the location. Zeta Berth where the position will be located, although part of 11 Sqn is a satellite station outside the confines of the main Unit and will require transit between Zeta Berth and 11 Sqn as well as LC CED & ES Troop.
