Location: Hybrid 2 days a week in our Head Office in Cirencester and 3 days remote.

We are thrilled to be sourcing for a permanent Data Architect within the Business Change Division, where you will be responsible for delivering and recommending design options, architectural blueprints and artefacts that enable us to develop and operate in the best possible way.

The successful person will communicate regularly with other architects, development specialists, project managers, data stewards & subject matter specialists, cyber security, business consumers of data and other business colleagues – sometimes up to board level. As such, you’ll need a genuine ability to listen, understand and convey often complex concepts, in a clear and succinct manner to a varied audience and to make reasoned decisions quickly – with authority, in a credible and professional manner. Whilst this can be in formal documents and presentations, face-to-face communication and the ability to tell a compelling Data Story, is key at SJP.

  • Work in the Data Architecture Team alongside the Business, Solution and Enterprise Architecture Teams to deliver architecture to business change projects.
  • Work with the Office of the Chief Data Officer to contribute and update SJP’s Data Strategy. Working with senior business stakeholders to understand their objectives in support of SJP’s corporate strategy and the changes that need to be made in the data domain to support this.  This will result in you contributing to their target operating models, implementation roadmaps and shaping value streams.
  • Lead the architecture effort on major data programs. Lead collaboration with other key architectural disciplines and ensure a clear business case. Influence and persuasion of Project managers, key execs. Coach and mentor development staff, onshore and offshore, Intellect & SJP on architectural considerations and approaches, including agreeing and adopting ‘best practice’ where relevant.
  • Deliver appropriate architectural blueprints and artefacts – including data models and data flows – both conceptual, logical and physical, and for current and target/transitionary states. Support, where appropriate, the Delivery of a common glossary of business terms.
  • Represent the Data Architecture Team and the wider Business Change Team to agree common standards, tooling, and notations that balance the need for clear communication, consistency and pragmatism. Lead and define clear guidance for new data architects coming into SJP.
  • Identify opportunities to show how data architecture improves the value of SJP’s data. Work alongside the emerging CDO function to improve data governance and data quality. Identify opportunities to implement common solutions across multiple strategic change projects.
  • Keep abreast of the rapid developments in data tools, technologies and governance, across the data landscape. Keep own skills up to date, achieve certification. Propose and lead trials as appropriate.
  • Represent Data Architecture at internal governance boards and external data-centric conferences and product advisory councils.

Skills and Experience

Whilst we don’t expect our candidates to be able to demonstrate all the below requirements, those that do will hold an advantage.

  • Significant experience in a data development environment – with some gained in Financial Services or other regulated industries and/or Cloud Environments. Focus on data, agile practices, transformation programs, product ownership and business engagement.
  • Creation of architecture artefacts/deliverables such as high level designs, roadmaps and strategies to support corporate goals
  • Developing reference architectures, principles and standards
  • Significant experience in data modelling – conceptual, logical, and physical.
  • Experience with a variety of database technologies – (Relational, OLAP, OLTP NoSQL and Graph)
  • Experience in data integration
  • Experience of Master Data Management &  hub concepts
  • Experience of data quality, governance and analytics
