The Digital and Data Directorate is responsible for ensuring that the UKHSAs digital and data capabilities support the delivery of the Agencys mission, aligned to the wider health system. It provides strategic leadership and oversight for developing and managing a common and bespoke suite of services, platforms and applications linked to UKHSA business and user requirements, including standard setting, quality assurance and a culture of innovative thinking.
The Directorate leads on driving the design of the UKHSA digital and data estate, focussing on delivering high quality, efficient products and services that strengthen health security. It owns the lifecycle of UKHSA health and non-health data sets and the development of architectural solutions.
The Deputy Director Architecture and Standards will be required to define, lead, and manage CDOs and UKHSAs strategy with respect to the enterprise architecture and roadmap, horizon scanning, clinical technology, innovation, and AI & machine learning as it pertains to both CDO and the wider UKHSA organisation, in addition to the delivery of workplace applications / platforms, ERP, technology services, infrastructure, HPC, scientific computing, data and analytics platforms, development and operation of applications and systems, and transitional service agreements with receiver organisations; actively driving down the total cost of ownership for UKHSAs technology estate.

Defining and documenting the enterprise architecture for the organisation, ensuring its integrity and evolution.
Leading our data architects, data solution architects and data modellers, working closely with Enterprise Data stakeholders across the organisation, including human resources, finance, science, and other business areas.
Driving down total cost of ownership of the UKHSA technology estate.
Defining, implementing, and managing technical design standards.
Establishing an effective technical design authority, and associated processes, to ensure decisions advance the Enterprise Architecture and CDO Strategy.
Translating UKHSAs and CDOs mission needs horizon into phased technical roadmap.
Ensuring alignment of technical initiatives to strategic architectural principles.
The definition of the organisations Enterprise Architecture & Innovation strategy.
Championing enterprise architecture across government and setting the standards and ways of working for the Enterprise Architecture community.
Responsible for ensuring the organisations systems are designed in accordance with the Enterprise Architecture.

If you are shortlisted, you will be asked to attend a remote panel interview in order to have a more in-depth discussion of your previous experience and professional competence in relation to the criteria set out in the Person Specification. The interview will assess the following Behaviours:

As part of the interview, candidates will be required to deliver a 5-minute presentation, based on Experience, the topic of which will be confirmed prior to the interview. Slides will be permitted.

Successful candidates must pass a disclosure and barring security check.
Successful candidates must meet the security requirements before they can be appointed. The level of security needed is Security Clearance.
For meaningful National Security Vetting checks to be carried out individuals need to have lived in the UK for a sufficient period of time. You should normally have been resident in the United Kingdom for the last 5 years as the role requires Security Check (SC). UK residency less than the outlined periods may not necessarily bar you from gaining national security vetting and applicants should contact the Vacancy Holder / Recruiting Manager listed in the advert for further advice.
If you have spent more than 6 months abroad over the last 3 years you may need an International Police Check. This would not necessarily have to be in a single block, and it could be time accrued over that period.
