Location: London - Paddington (hybrid)

Employment Type: 9-month Fixed-Term Contract

The role:

To support the Public Policy Director in developing and executing a proactive public affairs and policy strategy for St. James's Place. The role will play a leading role in two of the key pillars of the Public Policy strategy implementation:

  • 'Proactive Policy' (e.g. leading campaigns on key topics of interest for SJP); and
  • 'Stakeholder Management' (ensuring we are meeting the right stakeholders at the right time and are well briefed).

This role is a 9 month fixed term contract with the potential to extend to 12 months.

What you'll be doing:

  • Proactive external campaign development and execution
  • Developing messaging on key topics and providing briefings and speeches to senior executives attending policy and political meetings and events
  • Overseeing political monitoring and ensuring internal leaders are on top of relevant developments
  • Taking a lead role on the internal Thought Leadership Committee and/or other similar internal forums to support our external proactive policy campaigns
  • Identify and mitigate reputational risk with political stakeholders.
  • Help craft proactive policy content, working closely with internal and external experts as appropriate
  • Provide timely and insightful analysis of political and policy developments to key internal stakeholders.

What we are looking for:

  • Strong, corporate experience in public affairs
  • Good understanding of UK politics, and experience of delivering successful external campaigns.
  • Strong influencing and interpersonal skills
  • Confident and competent in face to face engagement operating at the most senior levels.
  • Outstanding quality of judgement around reputational and policy issues.

Special Requirements:

The role will require regular in-person London working, but it is available to people who wish to work flexibly as long as there is a willingness to travel for in-person meetings (London, in particular, and Cirencester will be regular locations where physical presence is required).

Flexible Working

We know that everyone works best in different ways, at different times and in different environments. We value all of our employees and appreciate that everyone is different, and at different stages within their career. Recognising this, we have introduced a hybrid working policy to provide greater flexibility for part-time work, job-sharing, remote working, and flexibility on hours. Our people are encouraged to work in a flexible way that suits their lifestyle, so please ask the question and start a conversation!

Research tells us that applicants (especially those from underrepresented groups) can be put off from applying for a role if they do not meet all the criteria or have been on an extended career-break. If you think you would be a good match for this role and can demonstrate some transferable experience please apply, regardless of whether you tick every box.
