Location: Edinburgh Office

Employment Type: Permanent

We are currently looking for a Senior Manager – Business Partnering, based around the Edinburgh area and required to travel regularly to Partner Practices within your defined area.

Are you a driven, people focused individual, seeking challenge and variety in your work?

Do you have a growth mindset with a desire to coach and develop business? Do you want to work for an outstanding FTSE 100 company offering a highly competitive salary and benefits package?

A Business Partner acts as the primary point of contact to SJP Partnership: those Partner and Adviser businesses that provide outstanding advice to their clients.

The work you’ll do is crucial to maintaining their effectiveness in delivering excellent client outcomes. It encompasses creating a sense of belonging and community with your aligned Partners; helping them achieve their business objectives; and ensuring they get the right specialist support at the right time.

Your work will support and maximise their business potential, objectives, and goals within SJP, in turn supporting the achievement of corporate growth objectives and improving the quality of the client experience.

Whilst having no direct line management responsibilities, you will guide and mentor Partner businesses to support new growth in line with company objectives to deliver excellent client outcomes.

What you will be doing:

  • Taking responsibility for managing the output and performance of the Partnership in line with SJP values through impactful relationships, actively seeking information and understanding of a Partner or Adviser’s business, conducting analysis and identifying business development requirements.
  • Ensuring that Partners and Advisers develop their knowledge and skills necessary to write, document and submit business within SJP guidelines and meet the required standards.
  • Keeping your Business Partner Lead (your Manager) updated and working collaboratively with Risk, Supervision and other parts of the Field Management Team to ensure all stakeholders are kept up to date on key matters, risks and competence involving Partners or Advisers.
  • Working with Partners and Advisers to ensure that they fully understand and utilise the SJP proposition most effectively.
  • Inspiring and encouraging appropriate strategy, operational activity and best practice aimed at enhancing the quality of Partners’ and Advisers’ business and their results.
  • Encouraging best practice in business planning, marketing, systems, people management, and administration to create a Partner or Adviser capable of achieving long-term growth and productivity.
  • Applying judgment to determine where to apply your time and resource to the Partnership.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Rapport and relationship building attributes that enable impact and influence both in the Partnership and wider SJP.
  • Well-developed and proven skills as a coach – if you have a Certificate in Advanced Coaching and Mentoring (or equivalent), that’s great, but certainly not essential.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels up to and including Director level management.
  • Good analytical and decision-making skills underpinned by informed sound judgement.
  • Ability to organise time and workload, work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work collegiately with other parts of the business.
  • Ability to identify skills and knowledge shortfalls, provide constructive feedback and through strong coaching/development skills support Partners & Advisers to become established.

We value all of our employees and appreciate that everyone is different, and at different stages within their career. Our people are encouraged to work in a flexible way that suits their lifestyle, so please ask the question and start a conversation!

Research tells us that applicants (especially those from underrepresented groups) can be put off from applying for a role if they do not meet all the criteria or have been on an extended career-break. If you think you would be a good match for this role and can demonstrate some transferable experience please apply, regardless of whether you tick every box.
