An opportunity exists for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to join the Site Engineering Support Services Team as a Workshop Engineer.

RAF Cosford is a large and diverse station with a transient population home to a diverse range of station support elements supporting the Defence School of Aeronautical Engineering and all other resident and parented units to achieve their defence output delivery.

The role is part of a team within the engineering workshops as part of the Operational Support Wing (OSW) at RAF Cosford, and it provides a pivotal function to the Station Commander as Head of Establishment with assurance of regulatory and legislative compliance and ensuring training can be delivered.

We are looking for someone with good communication and organisational skills, with an attention to detail and the drive to see tasks through. Using proficient skills and experience you will provide engineering support to the Unit by calibrating and integrity testing all registered items of Mechanical and Electrical Test and Measuring Equipment (TME) used in our live engineering and training environments to ensure smooth operational delivery and high-quality service in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Whilst experience or an understanding of mechanical and electrical testing would be advantageous, the candidate will ideally have recent experience in a similar technical working environment, and someone looking to develop within the technical engineering profession.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job description

As an integral part of the Site Engineering Support Services Team within the engineering workshops the role is both interesting and challenging requiring technical expertise as the interface with its extensive customer base located over multiple sites. The duties and responsibilities include:

  • Carrying out Routine Maintenance of TME as required.
  • Calibrating and carrying out Unit Test Procedures on all types of Mechanical and Electrical Test and Measuring Equipment.
  • Processing the despatch and receipt, to and from external agencies of all TME assets requiring off site calibration and maintenance.
  • Assisting with the setting up of Audio-Visual Aids for Conferences, Graduations, the Cosford Air Show and other internal and external events as required.
  • Assisting with Quality Assurance Self Audits as required by Line Manager and Workshops Foreman.
  • Supporting Line Manager and Workshops Foreman with any other Workshops related tasks as required.

Person specification

We are looking for:

  •  A dynamic and enthusiastic individual with to ability to balance changing priorities and to work with autonomy.

  • A clear communicator with positive interpersonal skills, who can build good connections, relationships, and networks.
  • Be familiar with information technology, including proficient in the use of MS Office applications including Word and Excel.

 Due to the nature of the role, you must be capable of manual handling tasks when loading and unloading Audio Visual Aids equipment into vehicles where lifting equipment is unavailable or inappropriate for the task, and when transporting equipment around event venues indoors and outdoors.

The candidate will ideally have recent experience in the engineering environment and/or transferable organisational and communication skills with a willingness to learn, including completion mandatory training requirements associated with the role.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments.
