Can I only employ candidates from the country my company is in?

Can I only employ candidates from the country my company is in?

This depends on the role being recruited for.

For some opportunities, you may wish to recruit candidates internationally. However, it’s your responsibility to ensure that you’re complying with employment regulations.

For example, if you’re a UK-based organisation, the candidate you recruit must have the right to work in the UK.

If you are recruiting using Patchwork Hub’s candidate management system, we suggest adding a compulsory screening question to ask candidates whether they have the right to work in the country you are based in.

For more information about UK employment law, check out GOV.UK’s checking a job applicant's right to work article.
