Job summary
Are you a good communicator? Do you have the ability to build strategic relationships between the Place of Deposit network and organisations subject to the Public Records Act? Are you interested in developing and implementing strategies to ensure that the Place of Deposit network is equipped to manage digital public records?
The National Archives is looking for a Collections and Engagement Manager (Public Records) to take the lead on strengthening the three way relationships between transferring public record bodies, Places of Deposit and The National Archives.
This exciting role will involve working closely with senior leaders, both within The National Archives and in external bodies. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to help support the archive sector in building its digital capacity.
You will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the regulatory and policy framework for archive services and the operation of the public records system in the UK. You will also have knowledge of digital archiving and an understanding of the main challenges facing the archive sector. You will have strong relationship building skills, with both the archive sector and public record creators and be adept at using these relationships to develop real and lasting impact. You will have a track record of managing a demanding workload and prioritising effectively to achieve maximum impact.
A combination of onsite and home working is available and applicants should be able to regularly travel to our Kew site for a minimum of 60% of their work time.
This is a full time post. However, requests for part-time working, flexible working and job share will be considered, taking into account at all times the operational needs of the Department.

Essential criteria:
Ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders and influence effectively at a senior level.
Experience of strategy development, implementation and evaluation.
Strong written and verbal communications skills, including the ability to produce and deliver high quality guidance, reports and presentations, and the ability to translate complex issues into concise messages and guidance.
Excellent research and interpretation skills, able to adapt and present findings in an appropriate way, mindful of the impact on the intended audience.
Exhibits judgement in choosing when to operate on own authority and when to refer matters to head of department, director and chief executive.
Strong track record of work in a project environment, managing a demanding workload and prioritising effectively.
Awareness and understanding of the main challenges facing the archive sector.
Strong teamwork ethos and proven track record of supporting team members and other colleagues
Desirable criteria:
Experience of work in a knowledge or information management role.
Knowledge of the professional standards for archives, the regulatory and policy framework for archive services, and the operation of the public records system in the UK.
