Job Description

This is your opportunity to be a part of an exciting, fast-paced team and make a real difference in work that directly informs strategic direction for the UK’s cyber power goals and the delivery of the National Cyber Strategy.

The ACET team is unique in DSIT in researching and analysing science and technology developments to inform and shape wide-ranging Government policy and direction of travel.

Working as a Senior Cyber Technologies Policy Advisor in the ACET team, you will identify and create impactful policy outcomes following our research into technologies such as metaverse(s), AI and quantum, communicating our cutting edge science and technology findings to a non-technical audience, building strong and effective relationships with our high priority stakeholders (both internal and external to government), and supporting our national security and cyber targets.

Given the breadth of the wider team, the successful candidate will be expected to be flexible and work across a number of emerging technology areas in order to deliver work at pace.

Responsibilities and day-to-day duties:

  • Building relationships and collaborating with NCSC, Cabinet Office, wider DSIT and other government departments and agencies;
  • Identifying and informing policy next steps based on evidence;
  • Developing an understanding of technical science and technology developments and their cyber implications in order to play a crucial role in translating technical analysis and communicating clearly and credibly to a non-technical audience;
  • Influencing decision makers to implement policies and strategies which reflect the team’s findings;
  • Leading workshops and facilitating information sharing within the cyber and emerging technologies community;
  • Leading and supporting engagement with governance groups, Senior Officials, and Ministers.

Person specification

  • Proven track record of working collaboratively with others and providing constructive support to decision makers in pressurised environments, including one-on-one and through working groups.
  • A combination of excellent analytical and project management skills, good judgement and political understanding.
  • Ability to think strategically about policy issues across a number of work programmes.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience engaging with a range of stakeholders, both one-on-one and in groups, from a technical and non-technical background in order to inform policy development.
  • Experience in DSIT policy or sectors (e.g, cyber, digital, technology or data).
