Background

The Data, Analysis and Insight (DAI) team are vital in leading HMCTS to become a data driven organisation comprised of Data Engineers, Analysts and Data Access specialists.

The role sits within the Data Access team, who support access to HMCTS data for a range of users, including the public, researchers, and other government departments. The team also includes Knowledge and Information Officers (KILO), who lead on Freedom of Information (FOI), Special Access Request (SAR) and third-party Data Protection Act (DPA) requests on behalf of this, and another directorate. The team also works closely with the Data Protection team. This means that there are opportunities to work on related projects and improve your knowledge of HMCTS data access as a whole.

The purpose of this role is to provide day to day support with the monthly external publication of Management Information, and also to support with project work which improves the range of HMCTS published information. Key responsibilities

The purpose of this role is to strengthen HMCTS capabilities to use its published information, and also to take a lead role in enhancing the analytical information that we publish.

What will the successful candidate be doing?

  • The role will lead on the monthly publication of HMCTS Management Information, and briefing to CEO, Ministers and Press Office.
  • They will support new requests for publication of Ad-Hoc Management Information, taking products through from concept to finished product
  • Working with stakeholder across the business to fact check and assure materials and briefings, using published Official Statistics and Management Information.
  • Dependent on resourcing and priorities, they will also support the delivery of the Catalogue of Open and Shared data project, which will include:
    • Working with stakeholders and service managers across HMCTS and MoJ to develop criteria for future products
    • Work with the Data Engineering team and Management Information teams to productionise this information, including sourcing, quality assuring and developing reproducible analytical pipelines
    • Ensuring that the products adhere to the principles and practices in the Code of Practice for Official Statistics
    • Work with the knowledge and information leads within the team to develop an understanding of the FOI requests being answered within the team as one part of better understanding our users needs.
  • Provide ad-hoc duties as required.

Essential Criteria

  • Must have worked as a Statistician in Government, and specifically within Statistician badged roles.
  • Experience of communicating high quality analysis to a range of audiences must have been a core part of your current or previous roles.
  • Proficient in analysing documents to ensure consistency of analytical information to present to a variety of audiences, including non-technical.
  • Experience of using guidance from the Office for Statistics Regulation, Government Statistical Service and the Code of Practice for Official Statistics to help design and / or deliver products.
  • Experience in using analytical products and software to assess data and share insights.
  • Experience of building and maintaining productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders. We are looking for someone who is confident to offer advice and recommendations which consider the views of stakeholders and identify any wider operational or departmental implications.
  • Ability to work to tight timescales, managing your priorities and ensuring delivery of quality products.

Desirable criteria

  • Previous experience working as a member of a project team.
  • Experience of improving analytical reporting products, which can be published or unpublished products.
  • Knowledge or experience of HMCTS, or the jurisdictions and services delivered by the Courts service.
  • Experience as working as a statistician in Government, and specifically within statistician badged roles.
  • Ideally, we are looking for someone who has experience in publishing Official Statistics or Management Information previously.
  • Experience of using PowerBI and SQL would be beneficial but other proven experience of using analytical products would be welcomed such as MS Purview.
