Company Corner: Blue Badge Service Specialists

We’re delighted to announce that we’ve recently partnered with Blue Badge Service Specialists (BBSS). BBSS provide the elderly and those experiencing mobility issues with an excellent, reliable and friendly Blue Badge application and submissions service. A Blue Badge is a parking permit to help people with disabilities or health conditions park closer to their destination. We spoke with Adrian Lord, Director of BBSS, to find out more about the company’s work, mission and goals.

What are Blue Badge Service Specialists’ main aims and mission?

We’re committed to improving the lives of older people and individuals with mobility issues who don't have access to technologies allowing them to apply for the Blue Badge.

We understand that not everyone wants to, or has the means to do everything by computer or through the internet. So we offer a personal, speedy, courteous and secure same-day Blue Badge submissions service. This is provided by our team of friendly and dedicated advisors.

Our business is based around assisting and guiding people. Our mission is to provide the elderly and those experiencing mobility issues with an excellent, reliable and friendly Blue Badge application and submissions service. Courtesy, respect and dignity come as standard. BBSS provides the most complete, personal, attentive and informative Blue Badge service in the UK. We go the extra mile so that you don’t have to! This ethos is reflected in our motto, Service Above Self.

What do you think is the biggest challenge your industry will face in the next 5 years?

The advancement of technology will leave many elderly and vulnerable people behind who are being forced to go and do everything online. The current Blue Badge application and renewal service provided by councils expect this 20 million strong vulnerable group to use technology.

This process is lengthy, confusing and includes many different steps:

  • Going online, creating complicated passwords, verifying those passwords, setting up email addresses and verifying those addresses.

  • Navigating the complex Blue Badge application system, answering questions about medical conditions, and entering complicated medicine names and their dosages.

  • Once all this has been done, users finally have to enter their payment details and other confirmation information.

To make things worse, this whole process has to be completed in a short time frame. Otherwise, the system locks you out and you have to spend hours going through it all again! Moreover, councils are constantly cutting man-hours and available support to those who need it. Reducing their budgets, they instead use artificial intelligence (AI) and technology to give guidance for Blue Badges. This is great if you are tech-literate and are able to go online, but not so good if you aren’t.

What have you found most helpful in the progression of your company?

We love being able to provide a ‘Lifeline’ for those people who struggle with computers, technology and the internet. We always receive positive feedback and it's a real blessing to be able to actively help people rather than just send them away. We’re now able to offer six ways to apply for a Blue Badge, rather than the one way that councils advise.

Our customers have largely impacted the way we do things. As we listen to what they want and how they would like to apply, we’ve built our services around their needs and requirements. We have accommodated them rather than making them use technology that they are uncomfortable with, or unable to use due to their situation.

Can you tell us anything more about your company?

Our Director and the team of Blue Badge Specialists are all former government officers who are officially trained, regulated and qualified Blue Badge Service Advisors. BBSS is also registered with the ICO (Information Commissioners Office). This is the UK’s independent authority set up to uphold information rights in the public interest, promoting openness by public bodies and data privacy for individuals. BBSS are a Limited Company registered at Companies House. We are officially qualified, recognised and regulated Blue Badge Service Advisors who have passed strict GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and Information Governance standards.

We really enjoy listening, serving and helping you can make informed decisions. We’re here for you when you need our guidance and Blue Badge application, renewal and submission service. We love to serve and go the extra mile to ensure you get the dignified attentive service you need. And with our social mission in mind, 10% of all our annual profits are donated to our philanthropic charity partners.
