We look for people to join SJP to make an impact and to contribute to our culture which is based around long term relationships, doing the right thing, and being the best version of ourselves.

Location: Based in Cirencester or Bristol (hybrid working with 2 days p/wk in the office)

Workplace Type: Hybrid

Employment Type: 12 month Fixed-Term Contract

Seniority: Mid-Senior Level

We’re seeking a subject matter expert to provide full oversight of compliance and adherence with regulations relating to SM&CR (Senior Managers and Certification Regime), Consumer Duty, Remuneration Codes, Solvency II and employee pensions regulations.

Leading a small team, you’ll have responsibility for ensuring our remuneration policies and practices are in line with all FCA and other regulatory body requirements.

This is essentially a first-line compliance role and will suit someone with strong PRA (Prudential Regulation Authority) and FCA knowledge and experience.

What you’ll be doing:

  • You’ll maintain full oversight of relevant people/employment regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Provide SM&CR advice and guidance to the People Division and to senior managers across the organisation on their regulatory responsibilities and duties.
  • Work with the remuneration teams to ensure our remuneration policies and practices (in relation to executive remuneration, shares-based incentives and pay management) are in line with all FCA and other regulatory body requirements.
  • Management of a small People Regulatory team (team of three).
  • Monitor remuneration regulations to ensure alignment with our reward policies and practices, providing proportionate balance of risks and safeguarding against inappropriate behaviours and outcomes.
  • Responsible for SM&CR oversight and ensuring processes and governance are effectively monitored and reported on.
  • Continue to embed the process for onboarding candidates into Certified roles, ensuring that all elements of pre-employment checks are completed appropriately, and that the candidate experience is smooth. Ensure processes for change of holder of Certified roles are effective.
  • Act as liaison and coordinator for any People Division audits.
  • Develop and deliver training as required to ensure business understanding and agreement for areas within the role’s remit.
  • Present to Directors, Senior committees and Boards as required.
  • Work with and influence business areas to ensure structure and role changes are managed in compliance with SM&CR.

Who we’re looking for:

  • Subject matter expertise on all key people regulatory requirements (in particular SM&CR, Consumer Duty, Remuneration Codes) and how they affect business processes, role design and risk management.
  • Strong working understanding of the UK Financial Services Regulatory framework and strong subject matter level of expertise on FCA and PRA Handbooks.
  • Line management experience with the ability to oversee and upskill more junior members of the team.
  • Ability to provide expert advice to Strategic People Partners, to OD projects and to senior leaders on regulatory requirements and how they affect roles and policies.
  • Excellent communication skills with an ability to successfully present technical information to a non-technical audience.
  • Ability to interact with and influence senior stakeholders within SJP Group, including Executive Board members.
  • Comprehensive understanding of control frameworks, audit processes and governance processes.
  • Strong understanding of risk and compliance and business continuity requirements.
  • Project management skills with knowledge and experience of working with multiple internal partners.
  • Ability to analyse processes, data and identify systemic improvements and solutions to ongoing issues.

What's in it for you?

  • Non-Contributory Pension – 10% (increasing with length of service up to 15%) with further pension matching.
  • Parental leave – 6 months full pay
  • 28 days holiday entitlement plus bank holidays (based on full-time equivalent) with the option to buy up to an additional 5 days holiday

Flexible Working

We know that everyone works best in different ways, at different times and in different environments. We have introduced a hybrid working policy to provide greater flexibility for part-time work, job-sharing, remote working, and flexibility on hours. Our people are encouraged to work in a flexible way that suits their lifestyle, so please ask the question and start a conversation!

Research tells us that applicants (especially those from underrepresented groups) can be put off from applying for a role if they do not meet all the criteria or have been on an extended career-break. If you think you would be a good match for this role and can demonstrate some transferable experience please apply, regardless of whether you tick every box.

What's next?

Our team will be in touch. As a business regulated by the FCA we would advise you to familiarise yourself with the conduct regulations and in particular consumer duty obligations prior to an interview with SJP.

Accessibility Statement

We are committed to ensuring that our recruitment processes are barrier-free and as inclusive as possible for everyone. We particularly welcome applications from disabled applicants. This includes making adjustments for people who have a disability or long-term health condition. If you would like us to do anything differently during the application process, such as apply in an alternative format, please let us know before you apply or contact our hiring manager through the details provided above.
